Despite facing upheavals and turbulent times, during which the whole infrastructure was gutted in an unfortunate incident, the Govt. Polytechnic for Women has bounced back with renewed vigour and vitality and has been showing the way as the leading Polytechnic. A devastating flood inundated the Polytechnic on 3rd September 2006 damaging infrastructure & other facilities worth Rs 2.05 crores. The management, faculty, staff & students restored the services, made the equipments functional & reduced the damages to 30 lakhs within a period of one month without external help. The team Polytechnic reinvented itself and came out triumphant. With the intervention of Tech. Edu. III, World Bank assisted project, the institution has achieved major break through in areas like quality improvement, augmentation of infra-structure, curriculum development, staff.
Development, networking with user and other organisations etc., the Polytechnic has received the ‘Best Polytechnic
Award-2005’, having been adjudged as the most outstanding polytechnic in North India by the National Institute of Technical Teachers Training and Research (NITTTR), Chandigarh. This is a due recognition of our achievements but also a sure reminder that there are more heights of excellence to be strived for. The institution is administered by the Directorate of Technical Education, Govt. of Jammu and Kashmir.

ACADEMIC ACTIVITIES: The main focus of academic activities is the full time, regular three years diploma in Engineering, Technology and other professional courses. Besides regular diploma programs, the Polytechnic offers short-term certificate courses under Community Development, Vocational Education and the Continuing Education Programmes. The Polytechnic strives for the production of employable engineers, technicians and prospective entrepreneurs for industry, business and the community in general.
