Government Polytechnic for Women, established in 1986 in Srinagar emerged as the first Technical Institute in Jammu and Kashmir state catering exclusively to women, thereby ushering them into an era of technology and creativity at the brink of the new millennium.
Despite facing upheavals and turbulent times, during which the whole infrastructure was gutted in an unfortunate incident, the Govt. Polytechnic for Women has bounced back with renewed vigour and vitality and has been showing the way as the leading Polytechnic. A devastating flood inundated the Polytechnic on 3rd September 2006 damaging infrastructure & other facilities worth Rs 2.05 crores. Read more
